On April 16, 2018, Heritage Land Bank announced that it might have been exposed to a security breach involving the bank’s lockbox payment processing service, provided by third-party vendor, Frost Bank, through its contractual agreement with Farm Credit Bank of Texas.

Who has been affected?

Answer: It appears only those customers who have used Frost bank’s lockbox program (P.O. Box 1569, San Antonio, TX 78296) to submit payments, via mail or through an individual’s bill pay account, may have been affected. As we received additional information, Heritage Land Bank will directly contact those affected customers. An ongoing investigation is underway by law enforcement and Frost Bank.

Update: Heritage Land Bank sent a second notice, on May 17, 2018, to individuals whose information was accessed without authorization during Frost Bank's recent cybersecurity breach. If you did not receive this second notice your information was not compromised, according to the information provided by Frost Bank. 

What is a lockbox program?

Answer: Frost Bank’s lockbox services allow customers to send payments to a central post office box where the bank receives the payments and credits them directly to a client’s account. Approximately 470 clients utilize Frost Bank’s lockbox program services.

When did the breach take place?

Answer: Heritage Land Bank was informed of a possible breach at the end of March 2018. As we received additional information a letter to all Heritage customers was mailed on April 12, and a news release was distributed to the media on April 16.

What action has Frost Bank taken?

Answer: Frost Bank has informed us they have stopped the identified unauthorized access and is continuing to investigate the incident along with federal agencies.

What should I do if I think my account has been affected?

Answer: In the event, you do experience or suspect fraudulent activity on the account used to pay your note at Heritage Land Bank, Frost Bank recommends that you report the activity immediately to your financial institution. You can also contact Frost Bank’s 24-hour customer service line at 800-513-7678.

What action has been taken by Heritage Land Bank?

Answer: Through Farm Credit Bank of Texas (FCBT), Heritage Land Bank is reviewing other lockbox service options. We value the trust of our family of customers and shareholders and plan to remain in communication with those affected throughout this process.
